# Gearworks Watch

Inspect Midnight Caliber, a 40 mm watch with a polished case, a locally drawn dial, gold train, sapphire-style crystal and 54 separate parts. Explode the layers, cut through the assembly, inspect components and change time speed. The rendered gear poses and hands use one solved compound train with correct clock periods.

## Example

```sh
node scripts/fill-prompt.mjs --slots assets/prompts/examples/midnight-caliber.json --out prompt.md
node scripts/new-project.mjs --out my-watch
cd my-watch && npm ci
npm run dev
npm run build:single
npm run shoot -- --file dist-single/index.html
```

Give the filled prompt and generated project to a coding agent. Edit `src/dials.json` for finishes and `src/movement.json` for the supported gear layout. Geometry, pitch radii, center distances and phases must agree. Structural changes require matching validator, renderer and verification changes. Deliver editable source, one offline HTML and bilingual verification reports.

## Interact

Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom and right-drag to pan. Touch supports one-finger orbit and two-finger zoom/pan. Hover a part, then click or tap to inspect it; the part menu also focuses a component. Sliders control axial explosion and material clipping. Change finish, dial visibility or time speed, pause, reset the view or restart from local time. Reduced motion begins paused. Optional synthesized tones start after a gesture.

## Mechanism and limits

The train has five externally meshed pairs, ten wheels/pinions and six shafts. The hand periods are 60 seconds, 3600 seconds and 43200 seconds. An eight-beat step drives the same rendered train. The balance, pallet and hairspring illustrate escapement motion. This is a kinematic teaching model; spring energy, rotor winding power, torque and friction are not simulated. Pause and time warp intentionally leave real wall-clock time; restart returns to local time.

## Verification and hosting

See `references/verification.md`. The maintainer publisher builds first-party code in a temporary copy without credentials and uses a loopback-only browser. A SandBase Sandbox may run the same commands. Headless timing does not establish physical-device performance, listening or user acceptance.

## Credentials and failure boundaries

No keys, external assets, paid calls or storage are required. Node 22.4 or later and npm dependencies are needed; missing Chrome stops browser checks. Invalid movement data fails with stable rule codes. A graphics startup failure is localized. Restart clears the inspection and time-warp state; there is no saved project state in the browser.

## FAQ

- Are the gears decorative? The actual rendered wheel poses use the solved tooth ratios and contact phases; verification reads those poses.
- Can I invent another caliber? Yes, but its pitch geometry, mounting phases, ratios, layout validation and tests must change together.
- Is winding energy modeled? No. The barrel and rotor explain component roles without an energy or friction model.
- Is there recorded audio? Only optional locally synthesized tones are included.
