Opus 5.5 rebuilt the Moon in Blender from public elevation data, and the lighting test exposed craters that never see a sunrise The geometry was the easy half. What matters is that every height is a measurement, so the shadows fall where real ones do. > MESH - public lunar elevation loaded as raw numbers and built to scale, nothing smoothed > SPIN - the Sun driven across a full lunar cycle instead of posed for one render > DARK - every point that never receives direct light ranked by how long it stays cold A textured sphere looks right from any angle and tells you nothing. Only real elevation produces real shadow. The polar craters are where it gets interesting. Their rims are tall enough that the floor stays dark through every cycle. Those floors are among the coldest places in the solar system, and that is exactly why water ice can sit there. The same pass finds the opposite too: ridges that catch sunlight almost permanently, which is where a base would want its panels. None of this needs a lab. The elevation data is public, Blender is free, and the physics does the rest. Most people treat 3D as decoration. Build it from measurements and it stops illustrating and starts answering. The scene file, the data source and the full shadow map sit in the breakdown below.
